A Study of Preference between Rehabilitation Treatment and Herb Treatment for Stroke Patients


Abstract
The purpose of this study is to survey the preference between rehabilitation treatment and herb treatment for stroke.
The research was carried out from. April, 1992 ¢¥to August, 1992 at Seoul National University Hospital.
The subjects were a total of 67 stroke patients, ¢¥39 (58.2%) male and 28¢¥(41.8%) female. They received their rehabilitation treatment of the department of rehabilitation medicine
in the above hospital, herb treatment. Results of data analysis are as follow
1. The use of herb treatment was higher in patients with university or higher level of education; medical care insurance.
2. The use of herb treatment was the highest with follows ; Period ;¢¥Parallel with rehabilitation 27 persons (40.3%) Kind ; herbs 54 persons (38.0%)
Time ;In a weeks 15 persons (22.4%)
3. Forty-nine (43.1%) patients gave family recommendation or neighborhood solicitation as the basis for selecting a herb treatment site.
Forty (59.7%) followed the rumors they had heard of a particular acupuncturist.
4. Analysis result seemed to show a higher correlation with rehabilitation than herb treatment (p<0.01)
The findings indicate that the respondents have more favorable attitudes toward rehabilitation treatment in term of reliability, dependence and results to utilize compared with herb treatment.
It is hoped that study will provide basic data for improved rehabilitation of stroke patients.
